The rose: a classic flower in a modern setting

December 14, 2010

Roses have a classic beauty about them, but what I love most is to give them a modern twist.

A single rose tucked in a napkin ring brings a touch of sophistication to the table setting, and will make each dinner guest feel special. Plus they’ll have a lovely stem to take home.

Choosing two tonal colors and arranging the roses in a gorgeous, modern vase like this “macaroni vase” suddenly makes the flowers stand out. It’s simple, yet unexpected.

Pairing a delicate branch of eucalyptus with roses makes a whimsical arrangement for a coffee table…

… or a modern centerpiece.

Boxwood sprigs make another stark yet beautiful companion to roses. I love them here with a single flower…

… or in this tight little bouquet in a square vase.

My dad grew roses and they were gorgeous. I love photographing them also. These are lovely images! I really like your idea to tuck them into a napkin.

This is a lovely reminder for me. I use roses from spring to fall because I grow them in my garden. I forget about them in the winter but I think I may tuck a red one into the napkins on my Christmas table.

They are my favorite too. Here in Southern California, my roses are still blooming, but I will be cutting them back in a few weeks. And I do like you do, cut some sprigs from my other trees to pair, lemon verbena and silver sheen are great.
Beautiful post, happy holidays.

I grow roses and have a boxwood hedge, never thought to pair them. Silly me!
Gorgeous as always…
